"Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor" - Truman Capote
Success doesn't come quickly. It is something acquired through time and experiences, controlling and conquering of fears.
We always mistaken success to be the peak of our career and having financial stability. The dictionary defines success as the gaining of fame and prosperity and the favorable outcome of something attempted. For me, success is the contentment of the heart to the things that it gets. Success is the true happiness that someone obtains. It is gained and appreciated through failures. You can only say you are truly successful if you have surpassed failures.
When I was a child, everything is simple. My life gets to its toughest time when my toy gets broken but the simplicity of my life shattered when I was in grade 1. We discussed about capacity of containers. I found the topic easy to understand during the discussion. But that was during the discussion.
After the discussion of the topic, we were asked to answer an activity in our book. We were instructed to arrange the containers from smallest to biggest. At first, I was so confident of my answers. I went to my teacher and let her check my work. She said "No, it's wrong."
All I feared then was to be rejected. I was afraid of the word No. I went back to my seat and tried again. I let my teacher check it and received another No. I was so frustrated. At that time, I thought I was a failure. A failure that cannot be redeemed. It came to a point when I was the only one left unfinished with the activity. I hid behind my book to cover the defeat shown on my face. I felt so dumb. After this experience, I strived to do better. From that day on, I became a changed person.
This experience of mine helped me to strive more. Although very simple, I consider this experience a life-changing one. It changed my perspective of failure and success. It changed me over my fear of rejection and defeat.
Life is a matter of acceptance, whether of failures or success, we just have to, if not look, make things brighter in whatever way. We should try to conquer the fear that conquered us over time. It's just upto us on how we will take everything.
As for me, my experience taught me how to work hard, strive more, and to break my own records. It taught me how to change each know-how into knowledge that can only be acquired through actual experience. These experiences may actually lead to our success in the future.
We are like swords molded by a blacksmith. With all the beats and hots, whether feeble or potent, we are casted and made strong, sharper and more efficient.
With this experience and many more, I was changed. No, I was not changed into fearless and omniscient but it was more of the ability to control my fear.
"Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear and how to be free from it." - Veronica Roth, Divergent
